New -- Fuel - Emissions - Exhaust -- Used
There have been a lot of requests recently for carburetors due to the fact that the current carburetor has been rebuilt a couple of times and it does not work. It has been found that the most common cause has been that aftermarket base gaskets had been installed which blocked the porting from the manifold to carburetor. The carbureted RX7 utilizes an insulator between it and the manifold, the insulator is the base gasket. Do not try to scrap it clean for another gasket, there is no separate gasket, they do not exist other than when the insulator was manufactured. Most all aftermarket kits are based on the pre-1979 vehicles, which did have replaceable paper gaskets.. Carburetors were not ported for vacuum through the manifold. The emission systems on the earlier vehicles were less complex. All aftermarket kits do supply the four hole square gaskets that are used on the pre 79 rotaries. So, if you are here looking for a carburetor to replace one that has been gone through many times and still does not work, check for and remove any aftermarket base gaskets that were installed. The Nikki is a bulletproof carburetor that can be reconditioned many times. As long as it does not get damaged from corrosion from sitting with water in it or some one damages it. They are not really that complex, just have a lot of parts. Common diy issues; mixing the main fuel jets and incorrect float level. Have seen more than once – needle valves installed upside down.
